27k Service Next Week - Should I provide oil?

I have my S going into Basingstoke City Honda next week for its 27k service. I'd not considered providing oil but it sounds like a good idea, both finacially and for the good of the car.

So far I've heard from this thread that I should be selecting a brand of fully synthetic 5w-40 oil, but doesn't really matter which one. Is this right?

When an oil change is done, some of the old oil is left in the engine, does it not matter that semi-synthetic is being mixed with fully synthetic?

By the way, City Honda said they would be putting in Shell Helix, but that might have been an ill informed telephone guy.

The diff oil is due for a change at 27k as well I believe, would it be a good idea to provide this as well? Suggestions would be great if you think it would be a good move.

I have asked them to check the suspension bushes while it's in, is there any other things I should ask to be looked over / replaced / tuned etc?

Thanks guys.

Supply the oil yourself will save you about

Thanks S2UK, I'll make sure to provide my own oil and I will ask for those things as well.

What about diff oil? Should I provide this as well?

Also, please could someone suggest where I should get some decent oil from, and the full part number for it. Is 5W40 correct, or 5w30 better?

Thanks again.

Neil

Hi Nezil,

I have just had my 54k service done and have purchased my own oil from www.opieoils.co.uk

I went for the Silkolene Pro S 5W-40.

I had Castrol GTX in there for the first 12k miles.

Most people use some kind of synthetic 10W-40 oil. Shell Helix, Castrol etc.

See the recent thread on my 54k service:

Nothing wrong with Shell Helix Ultra - it's used by a lot of dealers and has served me well over 4 years, 2 cars and around 60,000 miles.

I would be tempted to supply your own diff oil given that there have been a number of instances in the past of dealers using ones not intended for the S2000.

Yup, they will replace diff, brake and engine fluids. Whilst he's under there get him to replace the gearbox oil as well, although this isn't a requirement.

Thanks very much guys, I'll check what oil they're using for the diff and gearbox, and make sure it is the right stuff.

Thanks for all your help. I hope to meet up with some of you soon - those of you in the south I mean! I am in London quite often, though usually in my 406 coupe rather than the S.

Anyway, if there are any meets happening any time soon, I'll try and get along - In the S!.
