Advice please - sell or break my S2000 ?

Thank you for all your words of wisdom, I really appreciate it.
You have given me some food for thought and I agree that some of the parts such as the suspension are pretty much worthless. Body panels, light, mirrors etc all in good condition and I guess the dash, power steering and a few other bits are worth having.

Welcome to the forum mate.
I was in the exact same position as you this time last year, similar age and mileage, Regardless of the situation you're going to be at a massive financial loss with the car, I suppose it all boils down to how much you love the car.
I bit the bullet and sourced an engine, 05 on 57k miles for 1500 quid, with both manifolds, alternator, aircon pump, and a clutch with a fair bit of life left in it. Took the gamble and it paid off.
Brakes? I suppose it depends what's needed, Callipers? can be sourced new from about £50 each, pads £20 and discs around £30 each... if they're seized and sticking, you can partly rebuild the new callipers / regrease the slider pins.
With a running engine in an S2000 on your age and mileage it's still worth £4k at least...
You'd be very lucky to see £2k in bits, so its more viable to stick a new engine in my opinion and experience

Something is only worth what ones willing to pay. Estimates and values are circumstantial in my opinion as if you estimate the value of a car to be a certain price this does not necessarily mean that's what you will get. I had my 2001 s2000 with full dealer history 12months mot and 6 months tax with 100k on the clock up for £3000 and it never sold. I estimated the value to be around £4k+ going off previous sales and other advertisements. I ended up part ex-ing against another vehicle.
As previously stated its a matter of what the car worth to you. Breaking is a hassle and a tiresome job, not to mention the space you need. Getting someone to break the car for you could be expensive. What I have done in the past is advertised the car for breaking and let the prospective buyers come remove the parts them selves and charge a little less, but I had the space for storage.
What would you be happy with on a value figure. £500 / £1000 / £1500. I also think you would struggle to break the £1500-£2k mark in breaking the car. With that said you would more than likely only get scrap value if you took it to a breaker as they have to account for labour, advertising and shipping costs, and there's not much call for second hand high mileage parts unless they are in mint condition which is doubtful.
Just my 1p worth. Hope you get what you want for the car, its a sad day when an s2k leaves us

It was shot blast rather than sanded too, thorough job. We did it the day after he bought it - should be good for a long time yet! Glad its still bringing someone joy, it was the car that made my mind up, now I have my own. Although mine is approaching 80k now, so you've got some catching up to do!
