Default AEM EMS 30-1052

Hi All

Looking for some input.

I'm looking at getting a stand alone AEM EMS 30-1052 (series 1) from the US. This is a plug and play unit for the 00-05 S2000 which replaces the OEM ECU.

Just wondering if this is fully compatible with a UK car. Someone said that there are potential CANBUS comms issues (he was talking about Nissan 350s) but this has raised a question in my mind.

Also wondered if there is anyone who has or is running one in an S2000 / turbo. Does the car retain all OEM dash and ABS functions ?

Before anyone says anything, yes I know its a series 1, but it comes fully reconditioned from an AEM accredited supplier and with a warranty. I am not looking for all the bells and whistles so a series 1 will do what I need to run my turbo.

Thanks in advance of any input.

It's an old an obsolete product, AEM stopped supporting it a couple of years ago.
If you get it really cheap maybe it's worth it though, only problems with them except the above is coolant gauge will not work and cold start can be pretty bad.

I have been using one of these for a number of years without any issues.

I wouldn't regard it as Plug and Play, it needs to be set up on a dyno by someone that knows how to program them.

I was using an AEM series 1 model for quite a long time.

And someday it went faulty.

I sent it to AEM in the U.S. just to tell me that a resistor was blown but since they now have the series 2 out they have stopped supporting and fixing them.

And they gave me two options. Either to pay extra shipping to have the product sent back (not fixed) or a discount on an AEM series 2.

Obvisouly i went for the second option but then the ECU stopped at customs leading to a huge amount of tax ontop.

That being said, i would go for a Series 2. They have less problems reported than the Series 2, the water temp gauge works, they are faster in the way they connect and interact with the software and if something goes sour AGAIN you will be to have it repaired.

Just my 2 cents,
Kostas.
