So this thing -



... has started to hiss loudly, took a while to sound it out but it's definitely it. If I wrap my hand over the black tube like protrusion then it almost stops completely.

The sound is like a static radio frequency or air hissing through a thin plastic diaphragm so I'm assuming this isn't normal and its goosed or damaged but still operational? Only just noticed it after installing a ballade TCT and running the car for a minute but haven't had any CEL's so far.

Hooked the pipes back up the wrong way round ? (assuming disconnected because in the way)

Oh my god. I was messing around with this when I fitted my
induction kit. My car has been making a high pitched whining noise under acceleretion since and this could be it! Pretty sure I put the pipes on the correct way tound though, will have a look tomorrow I will be chuffed if it sorts it!

If it's a k&n, the instructions used to be the wrong way around (at least mine were).

It's not a K&N, I am pretty sure I put the new hoses I made on the right way round but will try flipping them when I get a chance to see if it fixes it.
