All new S2000 and NSX
Honda commits to new NSX
20 October 2005
Honda has confirmed to What Car? it will build another supercar to crown its roadgoing range.
A new NSX is expected to be on sale within two years, powered by a racing-pedigree V10 engine.
Motoatsu Shiraishi, Honda's chairman of research and development, said that the company was planning a state-of-the-art supercar. This will showcase Honda's engineering capability and demonstrate that it could compete with the likes of Porsche and Ferrari, as well as produce successful small cars.
Our aim is to have a V10 engine some time in the future,' he said. I can't confirm exactly what type of vehicle the new NSX will be, but we are planning something.'
Shiraishi also revealed that the S2000 roadster, which has been on sale for five years, would also be replaced in the next few years.
The S2000 has not been a success for us,' he admitted. It was offered only with a manual gearbox and this limited its appeal in many markets.'
Honda only sells around 2500 S2000s a year in the UK. Shiraishi hinted that its successor, and other performance derivatives such as future Type-R models, would have to offer paddle-shift gearchanges and other options to broaden their appeal.

2500? I thought it was 700/year in the UK. Paddle shift will be great as long as it works and smoothly.

Paradoxically, it's limited appeal is what makes it appealing, although I guess that isn't ideal from a business perspective. Although I'd be happy if they stuck a sequential Ferrari-style paddle shift on it.
Wonder how much the V10 NSX v2 will cost?
