Default Alpine CDE-9850Ri Question

I'm looking in to changing my stock headunit for one which will work with an iPod. Some Googling and a quick forum search shows the Alpine CDE-9850Ri and Modifry DCI combination as being popular.

This is a bit of a dim question, but is the Alpine headunit able to display the time at all? As Honda decided to site the clock in the original stereo and, although it's a daft place to have it and a very small feature in the grand scheme of things, I still use it a fair bit.

If it doesn't, I suppose I could start wearing my watch on the inside of my wrist trucker-stylee

That could be the unit I have (I dunno the code, but it's alpine with the iPod stuff) and I've not seen a clock on it.

I've thought about getting a big alarm clock on the dash .. F&F tacho style (joke).

Just get a watch with indiglo too .. mine doesn't have a light and the cabin is too damn dark to time read

I have a 9853R and it doesn't have a clock...

Other options:
(a) watch with light (as suggested above)
(b) Sat Nav - Tom-Tom has a clock (I have mine set up for current time and ETA)

I don't think any Alpine units have a clock on.

Getting one fitted this Friday and never gave it a thought about a clock.

One question I do have is, are the stock speakers going to be OK regarding sound quality with the new head. Have spoken to the shop fitting the unit, and we are going to check this out when is is installed.

If not because someone has replaced the stock speakers after fitting an Alpine head, which make of speaker would be the best as a replacements?

Stock speakers will "cope" with the head unit but may compromise the quality from the HU. Pretty much any half decent after market 6.5" component speaker will be an improvement of the stock one. Especially if you also replace the wire from the HU to the speakers.

i have a 9855 it does not have a clock.

Please let me know how you get on with navigating with an ipod on the 9850 as the 9855 is terrible with the glide touch system !

i think the rotary control on the 9850 will be spot on.

Cheers

Have had a quick play with the 9850Ri with regards the control of the iPod and it works even better than the iPod itself, due to the fact that my fat thumb is not moving across the iPod.

There is no loss of spend when scanning though the 500+ songs on iPod using the controls on the head unit.

Pretty sure the steering controls will be fine when connect to the interface unit for the head also.

Will post details on Friday.

Would hope that if I replaced the speakers the shop would recommend re-wiring also.

Thanks for the reminder though mikey k
