annoying knocking from rear

My S has always knocked, from the near side rear. over time I've done the following, with no real fix, but it's starting to irritate me again.

I get the familiar single click when pulling forward/backwards that is usually a loose driveshaft nut - it's not this.
every time i go over rough ground ... like a sunken manhole cover, i get a knock like the shock is loose in it's mounting, or the shock bush has failed - a fairly solid knock.

problem is, i've take a look and cant find much wrong.
it's passed many MOT's at 3 different garages over the years, and has had geo done a number of times over my ownership period but everything comes back as ok (no advisories or notes)

Here's whats been replaced:
- both rear shocks (they were weeping; replaced with used one from GarageR)
- driveshaft (definitely driver side rear, not sure about the near side though)
- nsr wheel bearing
- both hub nuts replaced & torqued to the higher revised setting.
- all bolts checked for tightness (subframe, suspension arms etc)

I'd bet it's a droplink.

Worth a punt - only £14 for a pair on the bay. For some reason I though they were alot more!

if anyone else has input, then i forgot to mention the car is 00my, with 108k on the clock.

Pad retainers / rattle springs aren't fitted.

May sound silly but I had an annoying noise coming from the rearfor ages.Turned out to be the spare wheel shaking around making the noise. Probably not your solution but maybe worth a quick check.

What he said. As much as everyone hates Honda my recent service highlighted the near side drop link is worn as 'the nipples are missing and it may cause knocking'.

I had the same problem after fitting new droplinks from eBay. 1/4 turn more and the problem has gone away.

finally got round to fitting the roll bar links on new years eve and some testing - doesn't appear to of fixed it.
still knocking :(

it's not the spare wheel; not that sort of noise, plus I've also checked how tight it is... and I've removed it at one point too.
I beleive the pad retainers are fitted. 2 shims on the back of the pad and the two metal pieces that go on the carrier are all present. Noise sounds more solid than that. if it wasnt due to the fact i've changed the shocks already, i'd swear it's a knocking shock.... it has a rather solid noise about it

i'll be grabbing a spanner at the weekend again - the only thing that comes to mind that i haven't checked is the rear strut bar in the boot.

I know it sounds daft, check your exhaust rubbers and see if they're perished, mine used to catch that box section beam on the rear when going over bumps.

Rear anti roll bar bushes perhaps?
