Another crash - with a difference
 

This one is a little different - four month old m/c blue,1000 miles. I live in France most of the time,and drive my s2000 in the UK during the week.

So I stayed at a friend's house out in the sticks, and started off at 6.30 in the morning to drive back to London on a narrow country lane.

I got 400 yards. You guessed it, I thought I was in France, wrong side of the road, a car came round the corner at point blank range.....at the last moment I realised what had happened, wrenched the wheel, no idea how I missed it, then I was trying to get control, fish tailing, another car came around the corner, no way through, I span and hit the bank, careered back out into the road, and he clipped my rear as he passed.

The damage.....nothing structural ( I think) but every panel on the car other than NS front wing and door is, er, un-serviceable I think is the right word.

All in all, very very lucky. A stiff neck and recurring flash-backs of a near head-on, and that's all.

My problem is this: the insurance company want me to go to a local body shop. My brother tells me I should go to a Honda specialist - he says MDH in Chandlers Ford are excellent. Do I have a real choice and what should I do?

I live in Chertsey. Any advice and commiserations gratefully received.

Honda themselves have very few "on site" paint shops, so effectively they contract out. Unfortunately, just because it is contracted out, it doesn't mean that Honda approved means they are any good!.

What you should be able to insist upon is a paint shop that is Honda approved because of paint warranties.

Choice is yours, as they say.

Glad you're OK - I can't believe we've had another one so soon.
I'm not looking forward to my insurance renewal in March !

I discussed the Honda specialist issue with my insurer (AXA Direct) today and they told me that this would not be a problem, providing I could get 2 quotes.
As DB says I'm really not expecting any better quality of workmanship, but it should go someway towards reducing my losses when I come to trade the car in.

Beat you on age (1 month), but you win on miles, I had 1300 on the car.

Sorry to hear about your little off. Paint, pride and a stiff neck are probably a result, although you don't feel like that at the moment.

DB is correct.

It depends how important the Honda paint warranty is to you. If the car is a company car or you intend to sell within the life of the Honda paint warranty I guess you must go down this route.

But DB is spot on when he says Honda approved is no guarantee of quality. :(
