Anyone fitted the Alpine X001 iPod head unit?
Hi,
I am looking at buying the Alpine X001 head unit that is iPhone compatible, has anyone used this beast of a head unit?
I am interested in connecting it up to my iPhone (as it was designed to do) however the USB type connection lead looks rather short and as the S2 doesnt have a glove compartment in the conventional place that may screw me over in placing my phone somwhere out of sight in the cockpit!
Does anyone know if the head unit is compatible with the dashboard audio controls?
Any other thoughts or comments on the unit?
Cheers,

You need to buy a dashboard controls adapter - either the Modifry DCI (see my sig) or:

I have the 001 and use my Itouch with it. I'm sure I've got some leads if you are interested as the one I purchased off Ebay came with them already.

I'm pretty sure that HU doesn't work with an iphone. You need a newer model I think. 301, 303 or 305. The high speed Alpine cable will reach the glove box.

In which case: Griffin charge converter

I have got one and have the USB cable fed through to the ash tray/bin in the centre console so that it is nice & hidden out of the way . Plenty of room for your ipod - although not sure about an iphone. Have seen others using memory sticks and all sorts!

The IDA X100 works fine with an iPhone, so I'd assume the X001 would too. I used to have my iPhone tucked into the net pocket in the passenger footwell with the lead running to the back of the stereo behind the dash. There was about 8' of USB cable that came with the head unit, plus a small detachable piece to connect to the ipod/iPhone.

The gneral consensus sems to be that using a USB connection is best.
