Are you talking about light clusters or dash clusters?
I do know the plug between the car and the back of the dash cluster did change from 2004. So there's a good chance it changed between the AP1 and AP2.
And I know if you wish to fit the 2004+ rear light clusters they have a different plug from the earlier cars as well.

I am pretty sure the dash plugs are different and that you have to do some wire swapping to get things to work - that was as far as I got with searching before giving up and buying a 2004 car with that dash already in

They are completely different and is a really big story to go through the entire process and complete it. I remember one of our Greek community sponsors has done it and I just spoke with him on the phone to get more information on this. As far as he remembers, the AP1 cluster ends up in two connectors and the AP2 cluster ends up in one connector which are completely different. They had to strip all the wiring and solder it to the connectors, by adding also different type of fuse(s) at the fuse box. At the end of the conversation, he added that if someone asks for this job again, he will try to avoid it.
