I agree with almost everything. I said almost.....
"The Audi, on the other hand, is one of the greatest styling statements to ever roll off an assembly line. A timeless design, it is also small, compact and tight in a different way than the Honda."
No way! Look at how dated the TT looks now. Mind you, back in 2001 I suppose you could have said timeless!

I loved the way the TT looked when it first came out and still do. I think that people now look at the car through 'reputation spectacles' and cant help but think of all the knobs driving them.
Have you guys seen the new revised tuned up TT on pistonheads??

Europa i nearly did the same and thought about muying the MX5 aswell as the coop. But then thought about the running costs of two cars and didnt think it was worth it. An S is imminent, mwah ha ha!!

The fact that I'm forever going to the gearlever to grab the next gear up only to find I'm already in 6th, proves to me the car need a higher top gear.
Not a 7th for heavens sake but better spaced 6, as 4th, 5th & 6th all seem too close.
Trouble is I'm so old I remember 'overdrive' and miss the convenience of a flick switch to access higher gears..
But love the car so much I'll live with it.
The TT? Clever when launched, & now almost a design icon. But the allen key symbolism has been done to death and is now so dated and corny.
The latest TT seems to have ditched most of the screw head theme, and the interior ergonomics and range of of options represents the benchmark in sporting yet comfortable well appointed interiors. If you are agoraphobic you will love sitting in it.
Pity about the girly curves and cissy image, which in my view no amount of spoiler add ons, oversize carthorse wheels and bright colours can change.
It's just not a car I can take seriously.
More a grown up MX-5. Nice, cuddly, safe and sure, but lacking the value for money element. And of course for many it's about the badge not the car.

"It is literally a pleasure to use and the gearing is so tight that you can snick your way up through the first four gears without even touching the clutch."
I used to drive my Puma a lot without using the clutch - partly due to a dodgy left knee - does anyone drive their S like this ever?
New TT = 350Z Ripoff
