Avoid 2009 uk cars?
I’m interested in a 2009 car being sold from Honda direct but the engine issues put me off a bit. Is there something that can be done to avoid issues going forward or is it a case of it’s not happened by now it’s likely to be ok ? Tia
You can measure crank end float
Or demand they put a warranty on it
A lot were fixed, loads of threads on here if you search

Have a read of this thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/uk-irela...float-1192584/ long, but explains the problem and what I went through, including a new engine under warranty.

Spoke with Honda dealer today but there is no proof of a service in the first 5 years and the last couple of years are sketchy so I’m going to give it a wide berth. I see why it’s been on sale for a while now !
First up check if it’s an 08 or 09 built car, it can be registered 09 and be 08 built, as many of them are. The digit preceding the S in the VIN is the year of manufacture. The digits after the S are the number order. It’s fairly easy to get an idea of which part of the year it was built. Relevance……relatively few 08 cars failed, and if an engine was to fail it was invariably below 20k miles. At 35k I’d say it was a better chance of being fine. Check the block for the engine number if it’s had a new short motor. It obviously needs to be the same as the engine no listed on the VIN plate. If not it’s had a failure and been replaced.
