well.. me and my big mouth, my wife is gonna keeeel me etc etc.. it's in the garage. again

dropped my son off at school last week and a weird rattle ensued. i wasnt sure whether it was just a noise reverb from the nearby houses but had a quick look.. nothing obvious and the noise seemed to go away..

next day a twang noise, lots of noise, neh boost

lets play spot the issue

it looks like a bearing seized on that pulley which has been overheating anyway, the bolt snapped too!

the pulley was fooked hitting that big pulley on the drive belt (which is not ally so survived well)

Gutted.. Which charger is this HKS or TTS setup? Is it one of the older designs of plate? I remember these having issues.

Good luck sorting!

Fragile Jag s eh?

How do you get at that pulley? Bumper and rad off? With a bit of luck time will be the biggest issue. Why would that fail? The usual suspect would be belt too tight I guess.

Yep TTS

Haha this car is very fragile Gad, the most it's lasted without breaking is this time, 6 months?

The plate is off in that photo, it takes about an hour and a half, you just pop the filter and some boost pipes offoff you have enough space, one or two bolts are a bitch

The bearings are just weak I think

it actually has an auto tensioner (from a Ford) but I think I may have put too little tension in with the manual pre load.

Having compared a new pulley to old all the bearings are ready for replacement I think so will look into that now it's all off

nah.. it lasted from 09/2016 to 05/2018 and god knows how old the kit (and so that bearing) is.. i think issues like this are reasonably expected and i like my air con
it probably took 4-5hrs to fix, going at my own pace and i swapped the alternator belt whilst i was there (who knew how easy that was?).. i'll check it all over next weekend and if it lasts another 2 years that's all good. you have to expect a bit of tinkering on a 19 year old car that's been messed about with to this extent in my humble

i looked for play on the other pulleys when torqued up and to my amateur eye seems fine, given the effort to swap is minimal it's no bother, this is a daily but has backup

so cost, £125 for pulley, delivered, £22 for belt (i had one in stock, that's being replaced).. no biggy as i service this car myself so considering the performance i think it's pretty bloody cheap. albeit ruff round the edges
