Back in an S!

After 4 long years, I finally managed to get myself another S2000! I thought I had missed the boat in terms of pricing but found one locally that needs a small amount of love for a good price!
I am going to try and keep this one standard, famous last words, my last one had a lot of stuff under it's skin and I do like the sleeper look so as standard as I can keep it looking! ;-)
If any one has any information on S200 JMF, get in touch!

So the fixing starts! It has been a little neglected over the past 3 years so it is due full fluidz change.
Specced out All the fluids from Opie, @£90 so not too bad!

One thing the garage was concerned about was changing clutch fluid and the fact that the seals on the cylinders might be done. Anyone had any issues with a straight fluid change? Car is 16 years old..

Additionally a slight misfire when up to temperature and a rough idle, got a second hand low mileage MAP sensor to try, next would be coils. Oil change and valve clearances done.

More to come!

NB:I sourced a 2nd hand one from ebay(!) with the part number from the top of the map sensor - turns out it is the same one as from a civic...Honda Civic 1.4 EJ9 Denso MAP Sensor 079800-4250
Honda PN : 37830PAAS00 (this pn replaced 37830-P0G-S00)

Rough idle could be map sensor O ring missing or dry and a filthy IACV / throttle butterfly.

If it's 16 years old, did you have a look at the retainers for visual signs of wear whilst you did the valve adjustment?

nomadicS2k 07-16-2016 04:23 AM

Honda did the valve clearance and nithing was mentioned or flagged - checking the MAP sensor today and throttle.

Swapped the Map Sensor for a Denso one today - no difference, next stop - cleaning, IACV,
Throttle body and MAP Sensor

Carb cleaner

Also, going to order 4 new coils from Denso, as recommended by MB on his thread IIRC

Looks like I will need the throttle body gasket and IACV gasket

Have I missed anything?

Plugs - if they haven't been changed / gapped.

nomadicS2k 08-14-2016 08:26 AM

Looked at the plugs today - they are ngk Iridium- bkr7eix-11, so gapped at approx 11mm, but #2 the electrode is not looking good, lost its point and has some build up- pics to come, oem platinum being bought tomorrow! Good call UF!

So progress so far :

New plugs, full set of coils from a 55k s2k (thanks Mattie170), map sensor replaced with one from a Civic but same part number, throttle body cleaned with carb cleaner and the channel for the MAP sensor cleaned with Electrical circuit cleaner.

Its a little better....but this miss-fire is still here. No EML, no codes.

Thoughts:
  • The previous owner had swappedthe IAC valve, I will check this tomorrow.
  • I have done a whole bottle of injector cleaner of the last month to no effect
  • Interestlingly, a full tank of fuel seems to make a little better - fuel filter?
  • I wanted to keep it as standard as possible - but is it worth ditching the air pump?
