Best driving roads

Cat and Fiddle and Snake Pass were once both great roads now ruined by specs and speed cameras.
I'd agree on Northumberland, there are many great roads up there.
I quite like the road from Ingleton over Riblehead to Hawes and then on over Buttertubs, York to Stokesley via Helmsley, the roads over Epynt from Builth Wells towards Brecon and the A686 from Penrith through Alston to Haydon...

And the A5/A483/A470 circuit, particularly the A5 around Betws y Coed is quiet and technical with awwesome views.
I often do the Snowdonia and valleys route up through Builth Wells etc coming from Bristol to Anglesey.

We had an excellent holiday in mid-Wales last autumn, and the road between Devil's Bridge and Rhayader, via Cwmystwyth, would take some beating! Almost 17 miles of open moorland, which dips, bends and rises without anything in sight. I enjoyed it so much that I didn't even stop to take the obligatory photos! Why bother to go the 'Ring' when you've got this on your doorstep, and without all the traffic!

About a decade ago, that was mostly populated by sports bikes & some nutter chasing them in a low-powered sports car.
Now it's the usual trail of old citroens & Vauxhalls snaking uncertainly behind a supermarket artic.
The sportsbikes have disappeared and the nutter's rarely there.
