Default Bonnet catch bolts sheared

I finally found the time to replace the bonnet catch at the weekend - or so I hoped! Didnt get very far though, as the head of the bolt sheared off as I was trying to undo it.

I don't really know how to get it the thread out now - any suggestions?? Theres not much space, and only a few mm of poking out where the bolt did start to turn before letting go.

Number of options; vice grips or weld onto it or drill it and tap it.

what he said.. we used to get them out by welding on a new nut. you'd find the heat would loosen it usually

other than that you could try hitting it with a centre punch just inside the edge to tap it loose but that does often work in my experience

Small blowtorch flame concentrated on the stud will get it out, just wait until it’s glowing and you’ll be surprised how loose it gets!

Thanks guys.

Problem is, theres only about 1mm of thread protruding. I cut a little slot into the end of it last night with a dremmel, hoping to then turn it with a flat screw driver, but couldn't get enough purchase/deep enough slot. I also dont have access to/don't know how to weld...

You could try something like this:

https://www.screwfix.com/p/screw-ext...FRJj0wod3bcMgQ

Cheap enough to have a go.

Those from screwfix got me out of a pickle once but they are shite thread off very easy plus you need to drill the studs might as well just drill them out and re tap or rivnut ( rivnut you will have to buy the tool for it but my god its handy)

Well I'll try this first. I don't have a tap and die set (or one of those rivnuts - but that looks decent!) so I'd rather try the least invasive solution first. I can also work up to drilling it out completely
