Default Bonnet won't open.

The other half was out washing the car this morning, and he wanted to top up the windscreen washer bottle. Trouble is the bonnet will not open, pulled on the release handle in the footwell and nothing happened.

Could it be the cable has snapped and not releasing the catch?. Is it possible to open the bonnet any other way so we can check/replace the cable. Can anyone advice on how to pop the bonnet?

Hope someone can help..............cheers Maria xxx.

I'm afraid that it can be very tricky to open the bonnet when the cable snaps. You will either have to take the front under tray off or if you have got small hands it is possbile to get to the catch through the front grill.

I forgot to re-attach the cable to the bonnet release when I was messing with my car once......

I had a problem like this it was just because the catch had gunked up. I managed to open it by getting someone to pull the bonnet catch whilst i jemmied it open with a paint scraper (wrapped in insulating tape to avoid damaging the paintwork)... hope this helps?!

EDIT: if there was resistance when you first pulled the lever then the chances are that this is the problem... use the paint scraper at the front of the bonnet where the catch is... Good luck

Thanks phils2k, sorted the bonnet as described in your previous post. The worst bit was getting the cover off and on again, made the bonnet opening look really easy.

He he what am I talking about I did'nt do any of it . Felt abit sorry for the other half laid under the car, whilst water was dripping in his face from the defrosting ice that was on the car. Still thats what he's there for saves me getting my hands dirty, besides I only had my nails done last week thanks again people.....Maria xxx.
