Bonnet won't shut

Bonnet won't shut
First fault in 11 year of ownership!
Not the catch (took that off and it's fine) - the cable is partially seized and it takes a lot of effort with a pair of pliers to pull the inner back from the outer. In my experience of bowden cables, when they get like this, it's best to replace them (I tried the "blue tack funnel" and WD 40 approach but no joy).
Has anyone here replaced a bonnet cable and how easy was it if so (any tips)?
Thanks in advance for any replies

Mine got this, i got it back by filling it with 3 in 1 from both ends and moving it lots of time.
But it doesn't look that hard to change, one trim panel in the drivers footwell and then just pull through the new cable with the old...

Similar problem - took the catch off and sprayed copious amounts of WD down the cable, got better after a few days obviously as the oil worked its way down. Its only a temp fix but don't mind having to keep doing it.
I think I read on here that changing the cable is a bit of a tw4t!

Thanks for the replies - I've built my "blue tack funnel" up a bit higher and I'm going to leave it soaking for a week to see if that helps - I might check the silly Honda price for a new cable in the meantime.

I got a price from Si recently but haven't ordered one yet. I have the same issue.
It's on his parts page on the traders forum. I was just planning to pull the new cable through using the old one.

I recently had to change my bonnet pull cable. I managed to get a kink in the original one somehow so bonnet would not shut. Its a simple job to change. Drivers wheel off and wing liner out then just a bit of fiddling about to gwt the new one in
Only hard part is the rubber grommet on the inner wing, get that in place before connecting up the cable at either end and all is good.

I had the same thing but yours does sound like it's not easily recoverable - after I rigged up something similar to you (funnel, electrical tape and GT85) I doscovered they make something for the lubing job

Any good cycle repair shop will make a new one up for you, I had one go so pulled it through using electrical wire, took the old one to the cycle shop he made the new one with the old ends, and charged me a tenner.
EDIT- £31.57 plus VAT from lings.

Thanks for the further replies - how to replace it and price - excellent info
I was going to leave my "blue tack funnel" filled with WD40 all week and move the cable a few times each day. I made a temporary fix to a cable years ago in this way but, last time around I used my kid's plastercine, checked today and blue tack doesn't like prolonged exposure to WD 40. Lucky I left a rag underneath the work area just in case!
Good news though as the cable has loosened up enough so it that it works OK now, albeit with a slightly stiff operation.
I'll leave it as is and next time it gives trouble I'll buy a new cable and fit this without messing about again.
Cheers.
