So if you buy new you had better be very very sure you get the best deal possble, and more importantly, be sure you have purchased the right car for you.
No good whingeing after a few months that you don't like the VTEC characteristics, or the seats are not comfortable etc etc.
My 2006 new S2000 was the car in my lifetime ( I'm old ) that I have ever bought new with my own money. I have no regrets, but any I might have would be entirely down to me.
I costed the depreciation as part of the cost of the car itself, in my head writing off several thousands as the price I chose to pay for buying new.
Should my circumstances dictate, & however attractive the purchase of a alternative cheaper sports car might be, one with lower purchase price, cheaper to tax and insure, better MPG, the savings are likely to be offset by having to bear massive depreciation on the Honda.
Thus from a fiscal point of view I'm obliged to retain the Honda for at least 5 years.
Is my judgement correct?

I pretty much broke even on all the cars I have sold, and even a profit on the DC2. I lost out big time on the S though, as I piled miles on it and it needed a new roof.
I mostly buy VGC cars which I view from a "would this sell on" point of view, and ensure I get a good price.
Yours must be worth more than that Mark? Tis a lovely looking car and prob my second favorite colour.
I wouldn't dismiss selling private - you could stick it on here and probably get a genuine buyer.

I feel worrying about resale value is about the worse thing you can do with a car, especially when it's a car for fun. You'd end up not wanting to use it for fear of the mileage getting too high, not wanting to leave it places, not do trackdays, not do mods etc.
Which is why I'm happy to have a MY99. To be honest at this point I could afford to go and buy a brand new S, but I don't see any benefit to it. It would just cost me more and I've have less fun.
Just enjoy it whilst you can.

I agree Dembo.
The great thing about the S is that its had so few changes, there isnt a huge amount to sway me into buying newer. In fact I prefer the MY00 from the point of view that it feels a bit more raw, and that there isnt a huge amount of value in the car.

why buy new when i want to mod it, service it my self and drive it hard, bought the cheapest one i could find
