How on earth do you kit bikes using the ski attachments? I'm looking at the photo and can't see how

I've had a Classic Carrier installed on my S2K for about a year and a half. The brackets have already begun to rust, so if you get one, be sure to apply a protectant, e. g. wax. The chromium plating evidently is minimal. My car is stored under cover, in admittedly humid atmospheric conditions, but not so wet as to cause rusting so soon.
