Default Brake caliper refurb project

So, I picked up a set of calipers off of here with the intention of getting them refurbed so I don't have to take my car off of the road.

I've looked into it and quite fancy having a go myself.

I don't have a garage so will all be done outside in the car park at the flats where I live.

Anyway if stripped the fronts. A few pictures below. I'll update as I go, hopefully if I'm organised I will be able to do a guide for the rebuild etc.

looking at the pistons, I think they may need replacing as they are corroded. Anyone know for definate?

Oh, and I'm going to paint them ford rs green.

Try and clean them up. I think if these are a keeper replace though. I imagine they are coated and will corrode again if rubbed down

Nah, bit of wet and dry on them and some silicone grease, some new dust seals and you'll be sound

Give the pins on the rears the same treatment, and the pitons too.

They are chrome played I believe so won't last long rubbed down?

Not sure

The pins are different as coated in grease

Yeah I see your point

But if they're rusting already, they've lost their coating, so can't get much worse. Mine were done about 3 months ago with the same technique and no drama/seizing as of yet ( touch wood )

I think for piece of mind ill just replace them. Is it likely I'll have to replace the rear pistons aswell? Havent taken those apart yet so not sure what they will be like, although they work differently so will it matter it theyre corroded.

They will need to be sand/glass blasted to get the old coatings off. Any idea where i might be able to get that done and what parts will need to be masked. Will the blasting affect the internal area where the piston goes as that appears to be quite smooth?

As far as I known the rebuild kits don't have pistons included, in fact I don't know anywhere that sells them.

Actually, I take that back, seems they are available from Honda:

The rear pistons cost $25 in the US .... but I couldn't find anyone that would ship them to me.

I ended up buying one from Si for around £46 IIRC.
