Brake cooling ducts
Looking to get some extra air to the front disks as they aren't cooling as well as I need for track work.
Tegiwa do a set for £140 and they look pretty neat but I'm not keen on spending £140 on some little bits of fibreglass however neat they look. What solutions have others come up with? I'd like it to look neat but as it's a track car function>form whilst being cost effective would be best. |
just cut open the fog light covers and run some 2.5' flexi tube to the discs. You can cut out a hole in the dust shields too and aim the air through the hole
cheap and functional |

There's some pretty bad reviews on those wasp ones and they cost a lot too.
I would have a look on demon tweeks at the different sizes they do and find something near enough to the vents in the bumper and make it fit :) |
Made my own.
I'm sure there is a thread somewhere? |
I used G.E's home made ducts, very effective they are too.
https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...ff7c844efc.jpg I used 2" hose as that's what size fits the front ducts. I decided where to run the hoses to the disc brake shields and then removed them so that I could weld some lightweight pipe onto them. They are angled and shaped to aim at the centre of the discs. I also made two bulk head adaptors/joiners to fit in the inner wing plastic as I didn't want the hose connected when I'm only on the road. For two reasons, I don't get my brakes hot on the road and I didn't want the hose wearing out whilst on the road due to the steering lock/movement always causing the hose to move. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_102953.jpg Front duct fixed in place with black silicone (and still secure twelve months later). https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_104221.jpg I bought some black mesh to stop debris from entering the ducts and used silicone to bond it onto the front of them. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_104126.jpg Joiners in place. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_143619.jpg https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_143649.jpg Hose between duct and joiner. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_141822.jpg Brake disc shield fitted showing where the air will enter the disc. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_152002.jpg https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_145550.jpg Hose fitted between the joiner and the brake shield. (This is the other side of the car!) I also put rubber hose around the outer of the flexi hose against the anti-roll bar, but I haven't got a photo of that. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_190539.jpg Next onto the rear.......... Some of these next photos show the drivers side duct and then suddenly they're showing the passenger side so could be a bit confusing! I bought These (I'm 90% sure!) ducts. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_154738.jpg I wanted to fit them below these little wing things in front of the rear wheels as I'd seen someone else had done it somewhere on here. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_152401.jpg https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_152325.jpg So I made some brackets for them.. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_161028.jpg I also removed most of the lower lip to gain ground clearance and bolted some mesh over the fronts. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_161019.jpg Bolted to the plastic thing. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_154854.jpg https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_154829.jpg On the car. https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_164923.jpg https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_190727.jpg https://i137.photobucket.com/albums/...623_173219.jpg I think that's everything. :) |
:tipwink: I doff my hat to you sir, very impressive.
|
Like that a lot!

This is my project for the summer when I fit my supercharger! :-)
|
Looks great, where did you buy the ducts from for the rear ?
