Dot 4 can mix with dot 5.1 however it's not recommended.
You can't mix any other dot with dot 5 as the main ingredient is silicone and they don't blend
Some people believe that the higher the dot the softer the pedal due to lower viscosity. This is not true. If you have a soft pedal it is due to air or water content.
Running a higher dot than manufacture recommendation is not an issue. Using a lower dot can cause premature ware to the brake system and malfunction of the ABS at low temperatures.
