Default brakes

Pulled up after a reasonable run out yesterday and experienced a really hot smell coming from rear end, jacked up car and found its reaaly difficult to turn wheel with handbrake off, so assumed brake caliper locked on, not sure how long this has been going on as the wifer uses car for daily commute in slow traffic so probably does not get hot enough to smell.
Any ideas of causes or cost to replace disc etc assuming worse case scenario. ? the car is due in for 54k service this month anyway so it can go in early but would like to prepare for costs.

I have seen this happen when your rear pads need to be replaced.

This is a simple job to DIY, just need to remember that the piston screws back in.

Or it means the rear caliper has seized.

Either way, you'll know when you try and rotate the piston back in.
