If you have to buy a diesel estate, buy one with a big engine and have it mapped.

Makes a huge difference

eh ?

Old s2000 £4-5k for a non pristine example ( weekend toy )

( fwiw I suspect my 1999 90k miler is worth £5k at the very most and its still a hoot to drive )

£3k on a passat derv estate job jobbed

and if its only 1 kid £1k on a mk1 focus cos they go on forever are cheap as chips to run and have suprisingly good boot space.

besides the kids only gonna puke on the seats or spill somting sticky onto the carpet

Why do people think the fun has to end when kids come along?

Most families have 2 cars. Most people spend 90% of their time in their car on their own.

What's wrong with 1 x 4 seater and 1 x 2 seater?

Keep the S.

When our first little arrived I had to sell my mint CRX V-TEC (even more sickening was it went to a right T@$$3R) and I've always kinda regretted it. Wife reckoned we couldn't get the pram in the boot but I'm sure it would have fitted.

Tuck the S away in moth balls and buy something to get you by; you'll be glad you did.
