Brunstrom interview
I really hope that this man never gets to a position where he can bring real inflence to national policy. I seem to recall reading that both of his children now have speeding tickets thanks to his policy. Is this correct?
I like the statistic that he mentioned several times:
Speed cameras have reduced the total number of RTA casualties
But then he goes on to say that The total number of DEATHS is still increasing.
Makes me wonder how cameras are being effective at all. Perhaps they are entirely in the wrong places on the roads.
But I can't understand how his persistant assertion that more cameras will eventually reduce the death toll comes from.
He was very aggressive, too; everyone else appeared to be to blame, even the home office!

Of course, there's no need for him to be so dismissive of the trait; the economy would falter without them - no more 75% (or thereabouts) tax on fuel to the government to fund public services, like, for instance, the police...
p.s., I searched the Customs and Excise website for an exact amount, but it was only pence per litre - highly subjective.
Anyway, on an 85p litre, you'd pay 50.19p in tax, plus 17.5% VAT, which is another 14.875p, so that makes.. 65p to the government, 20p to the petrol company. which is 76.47%! (sorry, calculator's a bit slow today).
