Default Busted boss, pita to remove!

Tried to remove an HKB boss that was not centred properly (by me). Gave it a yank, nothing. Tried to use a nearby screwdriver to get some leverage on it, and snapped the boss!!
Lost me temper and hit it many times with a hammer.

So now I have what's left of the boss, which I've tried to cut down and split off the spline. Not much luck yet so plan to continue removing the face of it and somehow cut down the spline.

Any other ideas? I can't use heat without melting the plastic there. I've really surpassed myself with this cock up!

I've got grinding tools but worry about f**king up the bolt housing as well.

I was looking at a wheel puller from Machine Mart but there is zero gap between the back of the boss and the plastic with the writing on to pull.

Is it possible to change the whole unit? I better have a look at the manual.

So now I'm thinking cut all around the face and then remove the indicator plate before cutting off the spline.

Drill and thread a hole and make a slide hammer from some threaded rod. That will save cutting the spline.
