Caliper slider pins - best way to do it?
I've bought new caliper slider pins and bushes and grease etc as mine were getting tired. What's the best way of doing these - I ask as in the past I've caked in too much grease into the holes and then it's "popped" the rubber sleeve and oozed out of the hole. Is there a guidance on how much should be in there? I have also seemed to have a weird vacuum affect with after a few pumps the pin stayed in and got stuck, how to avoid this?
Should I also clean out the holes in the calipers where the pins sit first? If so best way of doing it? I was planning on soaking in brake cleaner over night and giving a good scrub?
Thanks.

use red rubber grease or a silicone based grease these are good for the rubber seal, Don't use ordinary grease or worse still copper grease these are bad for the rubber seal

What ^^^ said. Too much grease and when you try and slide the pins home / fit the boots over them ... they will just ping right off and grease will leak out.

Watch what cleaner you use so it doesn't destroy the rubber seals, assuming you got new ones however. Brake cleaner evaporates pretty quick so soaking overnight wouldn't help. I use a wire brush and hook knife to clean the pins normally paying special to clean the little indentation the rubber seals sit in the pin and caliper so it's water tight for future use. Clean the hole in the caliper until no other old grease comes out. Finally put the pin and seal together into caliper and purge any air out.

Thanks guys, it's all new boots and pins, I've got plenty of red rubber grease and silicone grease coming out my ears, it was more about making sure I'm installing properly from the beginning - thanks
