Thumbs up "cam chain tensioner at 70k" ?

In a recent Pistonheads feature on the S2000 it quotes the above - http://www.pistonheads.com/news/defa...?storyId=23160

I've had all my servicing done at Honda & although i try to keep up to speed with topics on this forum (maybe i'm being a bit dull here ;-) but i dont remember hearing a great deal about this before ???

(here comes the onslaught !!!)

Replace it when it sounds like a diesel. Until then, I wouldn't bother.

I thought I had to replace mine at 77k on my old S2k so did a GB on here at the time, sadly it was my engine knocking

So 70k is not strictly true

We did talk about this a bit in the thread about the article.

I don't *think* the TCT is part of the service schedule.

Mine is on 105k now and has recently started to the ominous ticking sound so I'm going to look at replacing it soon.

It is in FAQ on the service sheets

7) replace timing belt, timing balancer belt & inspect water pump
Though I'm not sure the dealers ever do the TCT under that clause because they have the opposite problem to Piston Heads Its not strictly a belt

Guys, no need to shell out for a new TCT when its noisy. Theres an extensive thread on how to fix via sandblasting or sandpaper.

Have a search and save yourself £150.

Not strictly a belt!!! It's not a belt at all, the clue is timing CHAIN tensioner.
Change/refurb it as required, not at 70k or whatever.

Cheers for all the comments everyone & apologies if i've missed the other comments.

I wont about anything then until my car starts to sound like a diesel & at that point at least i've now got a rough idea as to the problem.

Cheers all
