Car approaching 100k,How do I prolong its life?

As the title says, what should I do to MY01 engine so that it can go on for as long as possible?

:D

or........

Anyone think I should sell up for a younger model???

My MY00 was at 111k when I wrote it off so plenty of life in the old dog yet :D

two things:

change fluids regularly

don't make any engine modifications

Run it into the ground and get your moneys worth!

Sell it and get a newer one!

Keep and eye on it, change all oils.

Get a brand new runabout car and keep the S as a second car, like me :D

Do your homework and manage your expectations.

Know where to source a replacement engine from and the approximate cost for engine + replacement.

Have a contingency fund.

rofl - 100k? that really is nothing on a honda. yes it is 100k, but i've got a prelude thats still in perfect condition at 135k and nothing has gone wrong with it. brakes, tyres, clutch etc - the usual mileage service parts but other than that, it's still perfect on suspension bushes, handling, and starts perfect everyday.

end of the day, it's a honda, and 250k they'll see through easy aslong as you do what you have been doing the last few years - oil changes etc. im expecting to keep mine for 5yrs+ now

True, but does your prelude rev to 9000rpm?

Personally mines on 110k now and it only gets used about twice a week, there is lots of evidence that a well maintained and looked after S can last onto 120-160k with no problems.

Its a no brainer but if you have the money get another S with less milleage..Why?..becuase alsorts of things start to go when a car gets older.

Check if there's compression loss at the cylinders and oil consumption from the engine over 1lt/1000kms. If nothing of the above is happening your engine is ok and you don't have to do anything.

Otherwise you have a few options to upgrade your engine:

Put new OEM pistons (not an upgrade really, just a refreshment)

Put JDM spec pistons which raise compression to 11.7:1 and I think HP to 250.

Put 2.2l stroker kit but you will need new ECU

Put upgraded valve spring + retainer set

Of course if you can afford it you can get a newer model
