Car takes time starting up after stalling
#13
Thought I'd update this. Tom at TGM found that when you pull the key out and move it a certain distance away from the ignition barrel and then reinsert the key and hit the start button, the car fires up. The problem must be then that after a stall or quick re-start, the car is not reading the key. Nothing to do with EMS then.

IIRC, there was a problem like that (cannot remember if it's on 'Ludes or NSXs) and if it gets too bad, replacement of the transducer ring round the ignition key barrel is necessary.

hey guys. purchased a new key for the S from honda dealers as the key I have plays up from time to time (or is it the car?) and the car does not start up until after a while - this can be anything from the next crank or in the case of an incident last week 45 minutes lol. Booked the car in to get it all coded up and after an hour of waiting they came back to me and said "the car is not reading the key". They have told me that they will have to book the car in again to run a diagnostic and that will cost £145 for the first hour and more if the process goes on for over an hour. I thought I'd ask on here before I went ahead with anything. Any ideas as to why the car won't read the key? Its not their equipment as they coded up keys for a few customers on the day. Thanks you for any help

It's tricky on aftermarket ecu's extra decay table etc generally needs tweaked but usually a poor hot start is due to the battery, it's harder to start when red hot. Put a fluke on the battery monitor voltage when resting and cranking.

Either that or they sit there stop starting the car then tell you the battery's fooked.
