this car worth it? about to buy!
Hi all,
Been to see a nice looking S2000 today, 2006 model in red, 45000 miles, in good used condition with a few mods and up for £10,000, which based on the condition seems reasonable?

He's started taking the plastic dip off for me, and I expect there will be more to do when it comes down to it, didn't test drive today as it needed tax, but he is sorting that out for Saturday when I'm going to drive it, engine started up and ticked over smoothly, the chap works as a diagnostics tester at a big car manufacturer and after a brief chat seems to know his stuff.
So, I guess I just wanted to get your collective thoughts on the car and if there was anything specific I should check? I printed out the big list of common issues and things to ask and look for, here's some stuff I noticed today:
Rear paintwork on wings is a bit crap, been resprayed due to someone kicking it in and keying it, the panel shape is fine but the paintwork was done too quickly without sanding between layers, it has a couple bumps.
The soft-top has a couple of tears, apparently it doesn't leak but I wouldn't trust it, not sure on the cost to get it fixed/replaced, ideally want to get a hard top as well since the noise will be more manageable, the chap reckons I can get a new soft top fitted for ~£600, any tips on a UK hard top aside from gumtree (Seen a couple for ~700)
The alloys need a refurb, some curbing but not major
Rear wheels need replacing
It's been de-catted and has a full stainless exhaust system, sounds great but the MOT chap might have some questions, I assume this is a common thing, is it a case of swapping a cat back onto the machine for MOT time?
Interior looks nice and clean, can't really fault much there
12 Months MOT pretty much (29th March 2016)
Seems a good price, I reckon if I get it and spend about 1k on it I'll have it in mint condition, any thoughts?
Also to add - though he has modded it, all original parts come with the car, so I can take these away with me if I buy. I've left a deposit with him of £200

Those miles and that money it would have to be a REAL minter, and it's not. Looks rather messed about with, and four different sets of wheels, can this guy not make his mind up? Also I'm not a fan of 18in wheels handling and ride is not going to be what it's meant to be.
I'd walk.

I hope the seller uses some of the money to buy himself a full stop.
It looks nice but he's done too much with it for my liking.
There are examples on autotrader/PH with more miles and less of the extra stuff he's added for an extra £500-£1000.

Good luck with your purchase dude. Hoping to secure one myself this weekend.
Prices are a bit odd at the moment with cars going up in the last 12 months or so. At the end of the day, if you're happy with the price compared to the other options available and it runs on, what more is there?
I've been looking at GTs in the 6-8k range, the cheapest on autotrader in that range is a 2002 with 104k miles for £6.2k, had new exhaust and brakes and "mostly" Honda stamps. The next is a £7.5k 2003 with 70k miles and 7 of 9 stamps being Honda.

I'll be honest, I haven't really looked at modding or upgrading my car, but can I just check these quoted prices...
£800 for an air filter
£750 for drives shaft spacers
£780 for a gear knob
Also he states the whole front end has been smoothed, but it still has the headlight washers fitted.
