Default Cars value.

Last week the local dealer wrote to me asking to sell my car cause they suggested they need quality stock, so, I called and asked "how much?", 09 roadster-one owner-fsh-15k miles= £11k was the offer, today I spoke to a customer of mine re this and so he dialled into Glasses guide on his laptop and showed me the figures, after which he reckoned he would give me £13k and sell it for £13750, and even more in a couple of months. So is the dealer taking the piss or what, I know they have bigger overheads but even so seems a huge difference, when I worked in the trade I usually offered less than a main dealer cause I asked less for the cars.
Since we intend to keep the car and hope for sunshine this year it was just an exercise in nosiness, unless the offer had been too good to resist.

Not sure if it helps or not seeing as my pricing perspective is coming from the US, but NADA shows at the very least $22,000 USD for a rough trade in value, and NADA is even on the low side. For a clean trade in, it's up to $24,975 USD. So that would roughly be £13,100 and £14,900 respectively I guess? Also not sure how the difference in markets between the two countries affects the going prices of these. Regardless, you can almost be sure that if a dealership seeks you out to buy your car, they're seriously going to low ball you. I would counter with £18,000 just for fun

So? It's business. Convince idiots to sell you things for less than they're worth. Convince other idiots to buy things for much more than they're worth. Sorted.

£11k sounds about right to me, Honda dealers tend to use CAP guide more then the Glasses nowadays.

No dealer is going to give you £13k and sell for £13750, not in a million years, he would have a gross profit of £750 (assuming there was no discount) by the time he buys a warranty for it and preps the car and makes sure all the geo bolts are free,(as everybody on here advises people to ask the dealer for) the geo is in spec and the car is minter than a box of polo's he would loose a fortune.

If you we're really serious about changing then negotiate with the dealer to get a better deal. Having said that, you admitted yourself that is was just an exercise in nosiness, maybe the dealer Sussed that out and threw a figure in the air to end the conversation.

The best deal will always go to the person sat in the showroom ready to buy there and then. Good luck

Tony, the guy I spoke to(one of my customers) re £13k moves lots of motors due his keen pricing, the car is still warranted by Honda extended for 14 months and may just need a wash before plonking on the forecourt and the payment would be made to me and then £750 back to him in a brown envelope, the honda dealer contacted me with a view to buying the car outright for stock and as an ex employee there I know they use Glass's for pricing, they may have just neglected to adjust the price for mileage which £11k is about correct, or hoped I'd forgotten what I learned whilst working there and I'd take any old offer.
