Default CEL light and P1412

I’ve got the dreaded air pump fault, I’ve swapped out the relay for one I know works, but the code reappears after a few minutes.

it looks like a replacement pump or swap out for a resistor. Does anyone have a working pump to sell, or if I go down the resistor route how will that affect an emissions test?

IIRC it doesn't, the air pump only works to reduce emissions on startup.

Interestingly the Honda Shop Manual does not even list 1412, it does list 1410, 1415, and those are also related to the air pump. Have you recently done anything with the intake? There are two vacuum lines that are very close that are super easy to pull off and not notice and they affect the air pump. If removed it does not run. Look for the metal tube fixture that has two vacuum lines that is right near the intake on the top front of the engine and make sure those lines are intact and attached.

When the car has been sitting, do you hear the air pump run for 20 sec or so after startup? Just to verify it is indeed not working.

One definition listed for that code is air pump voltage high which more likely would be the actual air pump failing. However, none of that is in the honda shop manual.

Not sure if you will pass emissions without it since we do not have emissions checks in our state, but you can remove that system with no ill effect on the car. There is a simulator just for doing it. Izze makes it I think

I’m not sure I can hear the pump, I’m going to remove the bumper so I can test the pump directly. Out of interest has anyone stripped an air pump as it can’t be that complicated, a motor and spinning fan presumably? Ceased barings or corroded connections maybe the issue?

Ok I found the issue, the connector has corroded and sheared off, which was unexpected. I’ve ordered a replacement.

I temporarily cobbled a set of resistors together and it killed the cel which got me through the French mot. For further information I’ve examined the air pump and it doesn’t come apart easily. The motor area is accessible, but the fan enclosure looks to be glued.

given it is only an in and out tubes, a fan and a motor, my guess is a cheap aftermarket one could be fitted with minor adjustments .

I have the same CEL, which resisters did you use and do you have a photo of the end result by chance, ta

Couldn’t you drill around the terminals in the broken section and solder on wires to go to the loom and then re plug the hole with silicon?
