went to see high definition detailing in Barnsley for advice yesterday
he recommended the top range ceramic coating for the complete car
I asked about the clear plastic wrap around the areas like bumper etc
he did not think it was that good after time dirt got between the edge
he said that the ceramic coating were a better option

I've just started looking into these products myself . YouTube has lots of videos showing the benefits of ceramic coatings. There is no better way of protecting your car paintwork long term. They should not damage paintwork.

You will want to get any paint defects/blemishes/swirls fixed before getting the coating though. I don't know if a professional detailer factors this into the cost or you have to pay more.

For my money I would go for either gtechniq or gyeon. Make sure the person doing it for you is a accredited detailer for the product and that they have business insurance I guess.

I had the wonderful Lee at Extreme Detailing do mine with Crystal Serum Black. They key to everything is preparation, Lee spent many many hours polishing before applying the magic potion. Here's what it looked like when finished:

The polishing job took a long time because of the rubbish paint that Honda uses.

Washing the car is extremely easy - dirt just falls off it.

Here's some beading pron:

I've just done my yearly wash, clay and CarLack68 NSC + PS21s wax and always forget how impressive the NSC is even after my "amateur" detail, and couldn't justify the expense of a full professional detail + professional ceramic job. Having said that my wife's Golf must have had an AG Lifeshine or something similar in the past and it always sheds the dirt really easily - even rain seems to keep it clean. So it's definitely lower maintenance than my method, whether it's worth the expense? - we'll it was good that someone else paid for it , is all I can say

Several hundred pounds. I plan to keep the car for a very long time, and don't enjoy washing cars, so for me it's worth every penny. The car is incredibly easy to wash with this stuff on it, and given the softness of the black paint, it means I won't make a mess of it when doing so.

A fair few other forum members have used Lee's services (there is a discount for S2KUK members) and I don't know of anyone who is unhappy, quite the opposite, in fact.

Previous owner had this done, not sure yet but it seems to bead very nicely, I've held off polishing or waxing as I don't want to strip it away.
Seems to make it very easy to wash and beads very nicely, still doesn't help keeping the black looking clean after more than a couple of spins....
