Ceramic coatings, any views?

PPF (paint protection film, and there are many brands) is the only way to protect from stone chips. I'm a keen detailer (not a professional although working with one who deals with Ceramic Pro) and I've been researching for quite a while now, approached a few companies including some top tier ones as well.
Ceramic coat is good, as you know there are many brands out there trying to sell you their product. The coat just forms essentially a harder layer on top of your top coat which is permanently bonded, and it will chip no matter how hard they say it is.
PPF on the other hand protects the original paint and some have self healing properties from scratches. When chipped, you would simply take the film off and replace (although quite an expensive exercise!).
Ceramic coating is usually cheaper than PPF, so a lot of times, to save a bit of money, some top tier cars I know have PPF on the fronts, and ceramic coat everywhere else.
Hope that helps.

Engineering explained has a timely infomercial although I don't think you'd be able to get XPEL ULTIMATE here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND4vE9vmQWE
