Clarification On Whether Working Headlamp Washers Are Now Part of MOT Checks
As there seems to be some ambiguity over whether a non working headlamp washer is now (under the new rules introduced last year) an MOT failure I thought it may be helpful to share an official link from the DVSA which appears to clarify this:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/m...es-20-may-2018 As you will see the above appears to clarify that it is only cars registered after 01/09/2009 that should be considered an MOT fail for non working headlamp washers. In which case the majority of S2000's should not be affected. May be worthwhile people printing off the link off before taking their cars an MOT if they are concerned about any potential issues regarding this. Hope that helps |
More detailed explanation here: https://www.mot-testing.service.gov....ml#section_4.1
See section 4.1.6 4.1.6 Headlamp cleaning devices You must inspect vehicles first used on or after 1 September 2009 equipped with headlamp washers. You can identify HID headlamps from:

Mine failed on broken headlamp washer pump last year, does this mean the MOT has actually been relaxed in this particular area now?

Is not a case of “if they are fitted they must operate”? Asked one or our mot testers but unfortunately we‘re busy today so it was a brief- if parts are fitted they must, they may not have been mandatory fitment before 09/09.? |
Asked my tester and he confirmed my disconnected '06 washers are no longer a fail.

Put a cap over my washer switch years ago, got fed up with the wife falling on it.
