Default Clutch appears to have gone... Options?

Hi.

So it looks like the clutch has give up on me whilst driving home, luckily only 5 minutes away! Just lost drive and can put the car into gear, let the clutch out and no drive. Can also start the car in gear with the clutch out and it doesn't lurch forwards so believe it's most probably the centre plate has gone.

So, what's the best option, go for a replacement OEM clutch or upgrade at the same time?

Any rough ideas on cost? I'm thinking of doing it myself as have done a couple of clutch replacements before and will do a few other bits whilst I'm at it.

General consensus is OEM for road, a handful of others for forced aspiration (TC/SC).

About £400 for an open clutch kit.

Clutches usually slip first - sounds odd for it to fail completely.

OEM is fine for road use.

No not had any slipping or signs of it going, but the symptoms point to the clutch unless there's anything else I should check?

What are the symptoms?

Could just be a faulty master cylinder or slave cylinder?

might be totally wrong but wouldn't a faulty master/slave cylinder cause the opposite problem? because the clutch wouldn't be disengaging?

Well I was driving along and noticed the car revving all of a sudden and lost drive as though it was in neutral, put it in second gear let out the clutch and again just revved. Pulled over and the car will go into any gear with the engine running, with or without the clutch and will not move. Also checked by turning the engine off, put in gear and started the car with the clutch out and the car didn't move forwards as you would expect it to. The best way to explain it is as though the clutch is permanently engaged. The gearbox feels fine and is going into gear and the clutch pedal feels the same as normal.

Only other time I'd had something like this was a friends cars whose centre plate sheared so no drive was given to the gearbox.

I'll be honest I got the car home and that was that so haven't checked anything else since.
