Default Clutch, straight forward for a non specialist garage to fit?

Hi

My clutch is due for a change at 102,000 but I wondered if it was a straight forward job for a regular garage to do or is there some insider knowledge needed?

I use a good local garage for regular servicing and stuff but if it's going to be tricky and take hours (without specialist s2000 knowledge) then it would be good to know and i'll take it to TGM in Fleet, only it's really awkward to arrange without having to take a day off work.

You're probably near JD Modified in Basingstoke? Worth getting some numbers from them

At least use a garage which is familiar with what is required for this car. Personal experience teaches that trusted local small fry garages don't always know where to apply lube

Oh thanks! Yeah, not too far and easy to arrange a lift to and from if I have to leave the car there all day...

What do you know about lube? Poor old Phil still squeals when he tries to walk after that night with you!

But seriously, does an S2000 clutch need lubrication in different places to other cars?

There's two ways you do and I can guarantee a regular garages that hasn't done it before will charge you at least a full day, it's more difficult thanks on other cars.

Definately would adivse against jdmodified. A friend had problem after problem with their work and silly mistakes, not to mention huge bills.....admittedly wasnt an s2k. Also the s2k i now own had an exhaust made by them which was questionable. Nearly all the hangers fell off and every weld cracked. Wasnt any sign of a tube bender being used either so was junked. Would avoid them for work....go to tgm

I had a local garage do mine, they quoted 6 hours but it took them longer because they didn't know to detach the release fork when putting the box back on (they still stuck to the original quote though) It was a lot more convenient than having to get my car up to TGM and the clutch has not yet fallen out the bottom of the car or set fire to itself and the knock sensor also survived intact - so I'd say if you have a local trusted place then go for it.

/edit
You'll also want to make sure they use a genuine Honda kit - I supplied mine and they were fine with doing it that way

Is that the tricky bit then? The release fork..?

My guy is pretty good and in the past, when I've given him any instructions from forums, he's always grateful and I've not had problems before (MX5) Plus, I always get the parts for him to fit.
