Default Coolant brands type

Hi,

What type/brands of coolant have people used to replace Honda stuff?

I have a bug tub here 1/2 full IIRC 2.5L of 5L genuine Honda blue stuff, but I'll need to dump the coolant soon. My only concern is i wont be able to completely flush all the old coolant out and i believe there are some coolant's you shouldn't mix.

Cheers

You should be able to run it all out with a hosepipe flush mate, thermostat is a PITA of course.

As far as I am aware, there are 2 different types of coolant of which is determine by their colours. Blue or Red. Over time coolant will change colour and Blue will tend to go Green, and Red tend to go Orange/Yellow.

As long as you buy Blue coloured coolant, it will be fine. However, I would suggest to buy coolant which are already pre-mixed, the water they used in those are mineral free etc so you wont get lime scale within your engine block.

If you go down the route of buying concerted stuff and mixing it yourself, be sure to use water such as battery water as they should be mineral free.

Personally, the Honda coolant are okay price compare to other brands, you are really only looking at £2-5 difference for 5 ltrs. I would recommend sticking to the Honda coolant.

IIRC (with figures on top of my head) the radiator takes 6 ltrs, and Honda only do 1 ltrs and 5 ltrs version bottle. Price difference wise is huge though, 1 ltrs was like £6-8, and 5 ltrs was like £14-17. So you are better off buying 2x 5 ltrs.

I have 'red' coolant in my S2000 system.

Tom at TGM chose to use it, I didn't think to question why.

The OP asked what people used to replace Honda stuff, hence my answer for Blue as Honda only uses Blue stuff. You CANNOT mix Blue and Red coolant, or say bye bye to your engine.

I think you just over-concentrated the word!
