Funny, I signed a petition regarding the congestion charge for Manchester on the governments own web site... I think they had over 2.4 million signatures of which I received an email saying it was touch luck, but they were still going ahead.... So, is it worth it? Nope... nada!

I'll be like Mad Max at the fuel stations 20 years from now... Bring on the spiked wheels, rocket launchers and oil slicks!

I had one work colleague who is already driving a lot slower on the motorway to conserve fuel... I explained to him, as long as it's in the slow lane I don't mind as I don't want to be held up be him!

Anyway, yes it sucks... yes it's going to get more expensive but we all just have to bend over and take it...

Signing the petition won't change a thing... The government need the money and the motorist is the easiest target and always has been!

K.

Keeps the poor off the road.
Nope, just means the poor will go back to siphoning fuel from cars parked at the roadside. Drive offs will increase, insurance will be an increasing problem and the decreasing number of honest paying drivers will foot an ever increasing bill.

The solution to this is to design out our reliance on the car.

I think some of us are very lucky to have a car we can afford to run out of choice.

I think it's fair to say that fuel prices are on the increase everywhere.
I'm just back from Europe and the prices weren't that much different.

It was about 1.35 for a litre here, it was about 1.35 a litre in Europe – except of course the 1.35 there was in Euros.,.. but with an 85p/euro exchange rate it's only about 15% cheaper.
And this 15% was soon made up on the tolls.
And that was diesel, which is more expensive here and cheaper there.

Then we'll just get taxed on something else.

Yep - couldn't agree more. Soon as they realised diesel was an economy bargain and people had shifted from petrol, they just whacked the price up on that instead.

Only way to win is to cycle or walk.

Unfortunately the UK is populated by spineless citizens who are happy to bend over and take the shafting the .gov gives us.

Seriously, a petition will do nothing. If this happened in any other country there would be real riots and protests. Somone needs to drive a petrol tanker into west minster abbey. Maybe then they'll take notice

The diesel price rise was mainly due to supply and demand, not tax. As demand has risen for diesel, its cost has risen. Refining capacity hasn't changed much.

This is a useful article http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/green-...iesel-dead.html

Either way it's no longer the bargain it was and won't be again.

This is a perfect excuse for when I graduate and get a "real" job, to buy a cheap run around and transform the S2000 into a track beast!
We should definitely all riot though.

To *save* money, I think the government could raise duty on fuel and scrap VED and make motoring more usage based (reducing fixe costs for the motorist). Less hassle for the motorist (no need to sort tax disc every year) and they can get rid of a lot of the DVLA. Also, introduce an MOT and insurance disc instead (insurers can manage the discs maybe).
Always thought this. Watch quite a bit of Road Wars / Traffic Cops and at least by doing it this way it would avoid the 'your vehicle isn't taxed Sonny'. And again, if the vehicle displays an MOT / insurance sticker then it would cut down on the admin side of giving producers and then dealing with them once they turn up at the Police Station.

When we went to Leeds the other weekend we noticed how many more people have slowed down and are driving in lane one. Been test driving a Nissan 370Z for 6 days and have put £150 worth of fuel in it so far
