Is it the soft top making the rattles, or the hardtop?
A lot of people (me included) get lots of rattles from the hardtop. There is some threads on here about adjusting the brackets to get a tighter seal. That may help.

Thanks for the info but the knocking and clanging seems to be from the movement of the soft top in the storage area at the rear of the headrests. Any suggestions- have only had the car a couple of weeks it is otherwise perfect.

The previous owner in mine put little foam squares where the bracket sits above the soft top when the hard top is on to stop the movement, the little brackets have rubber but there was a small gap, by blocking the gap no more movement
