DAB radio integration with current head unit
#11
I've already considered this, in which case I'm happy to either modify it to fit the left hand side or keep it on the right hand side of the stereo surround. Will post up pics of how it looks when it gets here and is fitted.

OK, just thought I'd point it out and perhaps save you some money!

I could've saved myself ALOT of money if I had just gone and bought a new head unit that already has DAB but as usual, I didn't think it through so I'm going to see if I can make this lot work.....

**EDIT UPDATE**
So as I've been trying to get this to work, I thought I'd start a price list of how much its cost me of ADDING on DAB to my EXISTING head unit, vs the price of a new DAB head unit.
Alpine DAB Head unit (Alpine CDE-136BT): £202.99
VERSUS how much its cost me so far to bloody add on dab to my head unit:
Alpine EZI DAB: £180 (includes windscreen antenna)
Alpine KCA 121B: £5
Panavise Dash Mount for controller: £18
TOTAL SO FAR: £203
Yes....I know it would've been cheaper to get a dab head unit

That Pure is what I have in the BM
Works well. The unit is fairly big though (2 fag packets)

Unlimited data, bluetooth A2DP + Smartphone = all the 'Digital' choice you'd ever need. Why bother with something that's expensive and with very limited choice?
I've just picked up a Tab 2 7.0" tablet, a mount for it and i'll be using that via internet tethering to the phone and bluetooth to the car radio to do both my DashCommand stuff as well as 'entertainment' on the go.
Total cost I think £12 for the mount and the refurb tablet was about £50 - i can take it from car to car and it's removable in seconds. Gives me a nice interface and decent quality graphics as well as GPS routing via Google Maps.

How's that go at speed though? My 'commute' is NSL and when I go out in deepest, darkest lincs signal is variable
I get loads of choice on DAB but all I use is R5 really
Oh and local sports stuff doesn't work on tinternet (guess due to rights issues)

Works fine on my commute via the A1 / 507 and because the tablet is bigger screen, less fiddly to use on the go. Horses for course i suppose but if you have a decent 3G signal - it's fine.
