I think I must have the light but the lamp in it is not working Maybe this is the fault with those others that do not have a light

They obviously removed that light on the later gay models, too much for you to drive and look at the dash

I think you should have a lamp there. The Qube instructions don't tell you to put a lamp in there, because there wasn't one there in the first place...possibly not required for the USDM.

I can't remember if there was a lamp in there when I took it apart...I've done too much since then

However...remind me to look at my old set of clocks (JDM) to see if there is a lamp in that position.

Just checked my JDM clocks and there isn't a lamp/lamp holder in that position. I have duly removed a few lamps from them (the dash is kaput anyway) for you.
