Yep ... for literally a second and only on colder mornings.

oh sh1t... my starter does that. Always has. I put it down to being a feature.

Are there any visual clues I can look for in checking undue clutch wear?

Everything is working normally, but your description of a lack of symptoms Fes has got my paranoia all pepped.

My car's reached that point in its life where stuff seems to be needing replacement on a regular basis - forcing back the plan of shiny things. Be typical for another grands worth of maintenance to bite me on the backside.

Mine does a lot of town driving, short runs, it's a daily driver and it has been well driven by me - and probably by the previous owner(s) too.

My clutch has always been noisy, chattery, buzz, iffy bite and in hindsight, what i thought was an over active CDV was probably the first signs of dying clutch.

That said apart from a slightly 'sticky' change of late it hasn't shown any other signs of impending death ... i will get pics of the clutch when i see my mate tomorrow

Mine seems to be going through that phase at the moment. Then again it gives me the opportunity to tinker with it so it's all good.

On the clutch front, is there any way of being able to check the life that's left in it without removing the box and checking the friction plates?

From the thead title, and knowing UF as I do, I thought this was going to be a bizzare thread about Autophilia or some such

I think mine's about to head the same way as Groova's. In the last couple of years I've had new piston rings and a top end rebuild (twice), a new hood and a new alarm. The to do list contains new suspension bushes, a respray to get rid of the S2K rust issue and given my milage, probably a clutch too

My ATR did that to me last year, Lovegroova...

tyres, discs and pads all round, clutch, engine mount, throttle cable, various oil seals, timing belt, tensioner, water pump, arb links. Etc.

Car is 8 years old with around 99k miles now

Around £2k spent last year. Car drives better now than when I bought it 4 years ago. All OEM parts, not all OEM labour though (Vtecdirect, Lloyds Honda, my local garage and some easier jobs by me)

Lucky I only do a few thousand miles in the S2000 a year

Garage R do a oem-equivalent clutch.
I've had one in mine for quite a while now and it seems to be working fine – not that I've done that many miles over the winter though.

I can't remember the exact price, but it was significantly cheaper than the OEM one.

Yep engine mounts are on my todo list but i'll see if i can pick those up from the states - the rubber mounts are 65 dollars each which is a pretty sight cheaper than what Honda want here.

Did your mounts fail UF?
