Did the GT exist pre 2002?

Anyone is online right now - Having problems getting an insurance quote from Adrian Flux - they're telling me that the GT was not introduced until 2002. I thought mine was a GT - I have a 51 Full UK car which I bought from the dealer as a GT i.e. with a hardtop. Result is that they can't find my car on the system to quote against... So they're quoting me as having an optional hardtop.

Anyone know what the deal is on this - I've noticed through running various quotes on insurance websites this last week, that whereas last year I had the option to select GT for a 51 plate, which lowered the insurance in some cases, this year I don't and I'm getting higher premium from some as a result.

GT was introduced in 02.

Don't know why an S2000 with optional hardtop should be any different to a GT to insure.

I have the same situation - in the end I just never mentioned the Hardtop. Probably not the cleverest thing to do, but at the time it seemed simpler.

I am the same, I don't use it so I don't mention it.

It does return cheaper quote though.

A 51 plate will span into 2002, mines a 52 but registered in 2003.

51 was in 2002 - up until March :)

Unfortunately mine's a Sept 2001 - so must have been an optional hard-top rather than an official 'GT'.

With the mainsteam insurers, seems that if it's a 2001 then the GT's not listed, so you're stuck paying the rag-top price for essentially the same model (granted though it doesn't make a difference to all insurers).

For me, Tesco's on an '02 GT gives = 999.60.
on a 2001, no GT option = 1087.80.

So you have to phone to try and explain, but then even if they concede, you've still lost the 10% online discount.

Thankfully - Flux's can quote against an optional hard-top, so worth exploring for those of us with pre '02 "GT"s. They've just quoted me

Unless your car says GT on the V5 its not one.
Just like fitting all the Mugen parts does not make a car a Mugen S2000 in the eyes of the insurance companys.

:D
Mine says 'saloon' on the V5.
It's a MY02 with optional HT.
So who knows which way is up?
And my broker is still cheaper than anything I've found online. :D
