Default Diff Noise - Recommended UK Honda specialist?

Morning all,

I've got my hands on 4.44 diff, but it's rather noisy. Hard to describe, but it's not so much a whining noise, which you can sometimes expect, but more a thumping noise which increases in volume and feel as speed does, rather than specific throttle inputs etc. I've linked a few videos below, although louder in real life. In the second video you can hear it when coming to stop. I'm not brave enough to take the car over 60mph for the fear it will fail spectacularly. Original diff is back in and all quiet again.

I understand the bearings were replaced fairly recently, so shouldn't be that and minimum whine suggests the gear-set is ok and no additional noise when coming off the throttle, suggesting the backlash is set ok. I've also refreshed the oil with "Fuchs Titan Race Gear 90 S High Performance Gear and Limited Slip Diff Oil" as recommended on here.

So I guess one option is to send it away to get looked at, is there anyone in the UK that people on here have positive experience of?

Appreciate your thoughts.

I know there's a diff specialist in Worksop, but I wouldn't say much positive about them.

A mate has his Alpina diff with them atm, but they've had it since last summer... and he can never get hold of them.

Not them then!

I have a few names to try, was just looking for first hand experiences on here or any ideas what it could be.

I bought a second hand 4.77 diff recently and strait after i installed it, mine made some strange noises (like rattling) at continuous speeds and coming to a stop, But under acceleration there was no noise at all.

Long story short after hours and hours of research i narrowed my issue down to the Pinion Nut either not being tight enough or being too tight, Not sure which it was. (Although i dont know how it could be too tight Because it sits in a crush sleeve)

Anyway My diff isnt perfect now but i have 90% fixed the noise.

I slacked off the Pinion Nut and Re-Torqued it correctly to 94 IB/ft as per Rob Robinettes Guide

The diff whines a little bit at certain speeds now but it is Night and day better than before.

Im just gunna drive it now, Enjoy it and if it blows ill put my old diff back in. But so far so good though and whining isnt getting any louder

Thanks for that.

Do you have a guide on that? Do you need to open up the rear casing for that? Or is it the nut visible at the prop end? If so, I'm sure there's a use once crush washer in there that needs replaced each time you undo or remove the nut?

Carden motors in Aberdeen are specialist in Honda they claim. Might be worth a call.

I remember you before you went abroad. We chatted on here a few times.

I still have my S but also bought myself an impreza STI as a winter toy!

ive used Carden but found them very expensive.
