Default Differential Advice

Damaged a dust cover on the diff, I need to replace it as it is now loose. Don't ask
Question is, if I remove the shaft will I need to replace the oil seal ?
If I need to replace the oil seal can this be done from the outside or will I need to strip the diff apart?
Thanks

if you don't catch it with the shaft pulling it out then no, but it can be replaced from the out side
