Default Disparities, Variances In VTEC Engines?

Well I'm probably tempting fate here, but my calamity with the failed engne has turned into a blessing in disguise. The new engine is quieter smoother, torquier and just 'feels' stronger. It's noticably easier to listen to the radio at speed too. My missus has commented on it so it's not just my imagination.

I wasn't displeased with the car before, but the old engine was much noisier and seemed to have a lot more peripheral noises going on. There was obviously some inherent fault there to cause the failure whether the noise was anything to do with it or not. I shall be keeping an eye on the oil as always, but it will be interesting to see if this engine consumes a fair amount of oil to start with like the old one, or whether it wont.

Tonky. Is it a whole new engine? It might be that Honda have improved the engine during build - IIRC the latest CTR has revised flywheel, valves n' stuff.

Nope, it's a short engine.... block, crank and pistons. The lighter flywheel and stuff is for the revised model, not available till Jan next year I understand.

Have to agree with zero on this one. My car pulls harder and has a louder /more audible VTEC crossover then any other stock S2k that I have driven so I must have got a good one. Still only got 8700 miles on the clock so it is only going to get quicker over the next few

my VTEC cross over is very very obvious....like a step almost and a noticeable surge almost like a turbo

The conrods, pistons and crank are the 'weak' points on the K20A, so I wouldn't be surprised if Honda's improved the manufacturing of them - the K series are the volume engines after all.

Of course, the F20C has better bits as standard

I'm lucky enough to have driven a few S2000's and a few ITR's. Mostly there were subtle differences in feel. The odd one is an S2000 where the short-block's been replaced - no difference reported by the owner.
