Do I need a new catalytic converter?
A couple of years ago the original catalytic converter was stolen from my 2003 S2000. My Honda dealer was unable to supply a replacement at the time (there was no stock), so a local garage installed a 3rd party cat.
This week I got an MOT advisory that it only just passed the emissions test. Is this likely due to the replacement cat not being up to standard? If so. does anyone know what the current situation is, in terms of getting a genuine replacement?

A genuine is expensive, you can buy used and they are not as expensive as they used to be.
On my boosted car I use a genuine one for MOT. It's better than a high flow or aftermarket which I also have, they require effort to get through MOT
But you should be able to tell some basics from the idle results. It can be other things like O2 sensors, exhaust leak, old air filter or plugs etc, even shitty fuel

Thanks for the feedback. Sadly I don't have the skills (or facilities) to swap out components for the MOT. Also no ramp at home so not able to provide pics.
It's been suggested that maybe a good run on the motorway before the next test might be all it needs, so I guess that's probably worth a try.
Is a "genuine" cat really worth the trouble and expense - e.g. would I really notice any difference compared to a £300 cat from Euro Car Parts? I don't drive the car hard these days (too old for that sort of thing LOL)
